Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need to re-enrol when my child moves form the ELC to the JS, or the JS to the SS?

No, once enrolled your child’s place is assured until the end of Year 3 for boys, and the end of Year 12 for girls. You only need to contact Enrolments if you need to pause or adjust your enrolment for any reason.

2. When do I receive a letter of offer?

We will contact you in the year prior to your desired year of entry and ask for supporting documents. Once you have uploaded all the requested documents we will send you a Conditional Letter of Offer. If you wish to accept the offer you will be asked to pay the enrolment deposit and you will then be invited to an interview.

3. Where do I buy my uniform?

You can buy your uniform at our School Shop, located at the Senior School campus. Please visit the School Shop page for contact details and booking times.

4. What age can my child start school?

• If your child turns three on or before 30 April, they can start Reception (pre Pre-School) on the first day of Term 1 in that year.
• If your child turns three after 30 April, they can start Reception the first day of Term 1 in the following year.
• If your child turns four on or before 30 April, they can start Pre-Prep (Pre-School) on the first day of Term 1 in that year.
• If your child turns four after 30 April, they can start Pre-Prep the first day of Term 1 in the following year.
• If your child turns five on or before 30 April, they can start Prep (Kindergarten) the first day of Term 1 in that year.
• If your child turns five after 30 April, they can start Prep the first day of Term 1 in the following year.

5. Is there a Defence Mentor and what activities are arranged for students?

The Defence School Mentor (DSM) welcomes new students from Defence families to the school and supports students whose family members may be deployed or absent and farewell students as they are posted to a new school. This is achieved through a range of activities and social gatherings like morning teas, craft activities, student interests or joining classroom lessons. The DSM also strives to involve the students in community-orientated activities including volunteering and engaging with Defence students from neighbouring schools.

6. Do you have extension or remediation available? What does that look like?

The Inclusive Learning and Enrichment Team (AET) recognises the diverse learning needs of students throughout the Junior School, and is committed to supporting the delivery of educational programs that are responsive to the needs of all learners. The complementary qualifications and experience of team members procures a collective expertise to support gifted and high potential learners, students with specific learning needs, students who require academic support, and students for whom English is an additional language or dialect (EAL/D). 7. Does CGGS have scholarships?

8. Do you accept international students?

The Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) community warmly embraces international students who are encouraged to participate fully in school life.

The majority of our international students choose to live in our Boarding House to experience the benefits of living and learning in Canberra and of belonging to a community. At CGGS we require all students to be able to take their classes in English and are required to provide evidence of English proficiency.
