Boarding at CGGS

Steeped in tradition and enduring charm, the Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) Boarding House, known affectionately as the BoHo, has welcomed generations of students from across the globe since 1927. We are the oldest and only all-girls' boarding school in the ACT, offering a home away from home for girls in Years 7 to 12 from regional, remote and international families.

Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, CGGS is perfectly positioned to access all that Canberra has to offer. Nestled in the picturesque foothills of Red Hill, the School is just one kilometre from Parliament House, and minutes to Australia’s national institutions, high-performance sport facilities, Embassies, Federal Government departments and over 50 museums and galleries. Beyond being Australia’s political and cultural epicentre, Canberra is also known as ‘the knowledge capital’, and is home to the nation’s best globally ranked universities.

Our dedicated boarding staff are available 24 hours a day to ensure you are provided with appropriate academic support and pastoral care. Our excellent on-campus facilities, which include a well-resourced library, state-of-the-art Music Academy, sports courts and fields and an indoor swimming pool, are readily accessible for you to pursue your passions.

Our School community is enriched by the diversity of boarding students, and the breadth of programs we offer cater to their needs in a safe, supportive and enriching residential setting. The CGGS Boarding House connects you with our century-old community, and carries you on its shoulders so that you unfold into somebody resilient, capable, courageous and leave with a network of friends for life.

The Boarding House offers several flexible boarding options to suit families of all circumstances:

Full-time boarding
Weekly boarding
Temporary/"flexi" boarding
Occasional boarding

Full-time boarding

International students and students from remote areas typically choose to board full-time. Students live in the Boarding House throughout the whole school year.

Weekly boarding

Weekly boarding can take some of the pressure off busy family life. Students stay four nights at school (Monday to Thursday) then three nights at home (Friday to Sunday). This is a perfect solution for many families who live just across the border.

Temporary/"flexi" boarding

Temporary boarding is an attractive option to help families meet their commitments. A student may have sport or music or another activity after school. Rather than travel in the dark, she can stay in the Boarding House for one or two nights a week (subject to places being available).

Occasional boarding

If you’re travelling for a few weeks, or if there is an illness in the family, you may take up the option of occasional boarding by booking in for just a week or two. Occasional boarders will be surrounded by friends and have plenty of opportunities for study and activities. They will also be taken to all their regular co-curricular activities.
