Questioning, wondering and cupcakes

‘The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing’ Albert Einstein How to cure infection? Why does an object fall to the ground? How does flight work? What is sound? Alexander Fleming, Albert Einstein, The Wright Brothers and Graeme Clark. All of these people have shaped our lives and the world we live in by the questions they have asked. Undeniably, however, it is the answers to these questions for which these people have become famous: or at least…

Celebrating Harmony Day

On Monday, 21 March we celebrated Harmony Day at CGGS. This day is a special celebration of our cultural identities and belonging, providing a reminder to us all of the value in recognising and appreciating the diversity we have in our school community. It is also a reminder of the importance of respect for all cultures, religions and races, not just on Harmony Day, but every day. Respect and understanding are crucial in the elimination of discrimination. Every one of us is different and it is…

Making a splash!

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the reimagined sports events of the Junior and Senior schools. Watching our Year 3 to 6 students swimming their hearts out in the pool, and their sheer joy of participating in competition was wonderful to see. In the small pool, the novelty events were joyful demonstrations of teamwork and participation. Riding pool noodles like ponies and a variety of other events kept everyone entertained. Out at the AIS, our competitive senior students ran, jumped…

Stepping outside the classroom

It doesn’t matter if you’re eight or 80, a long weekend is always welcomed and, of course, the recent Canberra Day holiday was no different. How fortunate we are to live, learn and work in Canberra, where we enjoy access to world-class sporting and cultural events, wonderful food, and wide and varied natural spaces to explore. This Canberra Day, I noticed a marked change in our city and in our community. While attending the Friday night football at GIO Stadium, CGGS U9s football on Saturday,…
