Student News - Term 4 Week 5

Congratulations to Eva (Y10) and Ruth (Y8) who were awarded Gold at the National History Challenge presentation yesterday afternoon. Gold Awards are judged to be the best in the ACT for their categories. Congratulations also to Evelyn (Y10), Ifra (Y10) and Nora (Y9) for being awarded Silver in the challenge which means their entries were judged to be in the top three in their category in the ACT.

CGGS had two major prizes at the LitLinks ACT competition, an annual creative writing competition open to students from all high schools in the ACT. Elizabeth (Y9) was the overall winner for the Years 9 and 10 category, and Aadhya (Y8) won the Judges’ Choice for the Year 7 and 8 category. This was Aadhya’s second time winning a major prize in the competition. We also had two shortlisted entries from Ren (Y11) and Miranda (Y9). Three other students entered and received achievement awards—Jaya (Y10), Nerine (Y10) and Emma (Y8).

Last weekend several students exhibited remarkable endurance and perseverance as they crossed the finish line of the Canberra Half-marathon. Well done to Ash (Y11), Rosie (Y11), Chloe (Y11), Juliana (Y11) and Sophie (Y11) who completed the race in under two hours. A special mention to the dedicated CGGS staff who were also out on the course.

Lara's (Y12) song, 'You Know I Like Red', which she first performed at Grammar's Got Talent in 2021, has been nominated as a finalist for Best Release of the Year in the 2023 MusicACT Music Awards (MAMAs). “Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have been nominated for Best Release of the Year. It is unbelievable the love 'You Know I Like Red' has gotten from singing it at a school talent show when I was 15 to having it nominated in the MAMAs. Congratulations to all the incredible nominees! I am so honoured to be standing amongst you.” said Lara.

Maria (Y9) competed at the Independent Girls Schools' Association (IGSA) rhythmic gymnastics in Sydney recently. Maria finished fifth in ball, fourth in clubs, and third in ribbon.
