Student News - Term 2 Week 8 2023

Earlier this week CGGS students were given a taste of a hands-on science curriculum at the Quantum Girls and Einstein-First program launch. Students were treated to presentations by academics from the University of WA and ANU and Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley who officially launched the program. Students in Year 3 experienced elements of both programs through workshops at the Shine Dome earlier in the day, and then academics visited CGGS yesterday to introduce our Year 7 students and Science faculty to the program. Recently Reshmi (Y11), Lucy, Aimee and Arya (Y12) attended the national launch of the 'Make It 16' campaign at Parliament House, which aims to give young people a voice by lowering the voting age to 16. The students met a wide range of politicians, including Andrew Wilkie, David Pocick, Monique Ryan and Penny Allman-Payne, as well as professionals working in Youth Advocacy and National Youth Coalitions. The girls were recognised at the launch as being informed, articulate ambassadors for their generation.

CGGS students performed strongly at the School Sport ACT (SSACT) Cross Country recently. Congratulations to Alex (Third - 17 years), Abbey (First - 18 years), Audrey (First - 16 years), Olivia (First and SSACT Cross Country record - 13 years) and Charlotte (Third - 15 years) who all placed in their respective age divisions. Several students also placed in the top 10 and qualified for School Sport Australian Nationals in August. Well done to all students who competed at the SSACT Cross Country:
