Student News - Term 2 Week 7 2023

Our Grammar Green Thumbs club recently harvested and ate lettuce, cauliflower, broccolini, snow peas and spring onions. They did all this from the Junior School vegetable garden, which is still frequented by some of our most dedicated Grammarians. Grammar Green Thumbs is one of many unique co-curricular clubs at CGGS, that cultivate our student's passions and inspire personal growth.

Recently the Junior School Defence Club held a colouring-in competition. Year 10 Defence student, Evelyn, judged the entries and announced the winners of the competition on Wednesday. Congratulations to Isla (Y4) who won the competition, and to Sylvia (Y2) and Alice (Y4) who were named runners-up. The Defence Club forms part of our Defence School Mentor Program, which supports Defence students and their families from Reception to Year 12.

As a part of their coursework this term, the Senior Drama students (with the help of the Canberra Girls Grammar School tech crew) participated in Canberra Theatre Centre’s ACT UP! 2023 festival—a curated series of original performances created by students from colleges and high schools across the ACT. With the support of a Canberra Theatre visiting artist and industry professionals, students devised two thought-provoking pieces about the ‘human condition’ and honed their performance skills over the course of the semester. On the morning of the festival, our students also had the chance to visit the National Film and Sound Archives, where they marvelled at the collection of artefacts, costumes and footage in the “Australians and Hollywood” exhibit. The highlight, though, was the opportunity to perform in the Playhouse at the Canberra Theatre Centre. Awestruck by the thought of walking the same halls as some of our most prestigious actors, the Senior Drama class and CGGS tech crew thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained a lot from it.

Well done to the Junior School team that represented CGGS at the South Weston Cross Country carnival recently. The team performed strongly and represented the School with pride.
