Student news: Term 2 Week 3

Record amount raised at Mother's Day Classic

We are thrilled to share that the CGGS Mother's Day Classic (MDC) team has raised over $25,000 for breast cancer research, making CGGS the 3rd top fundraiser nationally for the MDC. The team of Year 10 and Year 6 students ran 5km’s around Lake Burley Griffin last Friday as part of their service activity for Founders' Festival.

Federal Budget-Judge It Competition

The Federal Budget-Judge It Competition is an annual event hosted by CGGS that brings together students studying Economics in Years 11 and 12 from schools and colleges across Canberra.

Students from CGGS, Hawker College, UC Secondary College—Lake Ginninderra and Burgmann Anglican College presented their take on the budget, by applying economic theory and coming up with their own ideas on how they would change things.

Treasury collaborated with staff from CGGS on the event, providing resources, judging pitches and hosting students in Treasury to learn more about how economics can help inform important policy issues.

Treasury officials were impressed with the caliber of the presentations and analysis and the innovative approaches students took in unpacking and critiquing budget policies.

National Walk to School Safely Day

To help promote National Walk Safely to School Day on 16 May, our dedicated staff assisted students at various locations to walk to School, providing guidance and encouragement along their routes.

This important initiative aims to reinforce safe pedestrian behavior while also promoting the numerous physical, mental and social health benefits that come from walking.

Year 6 Rostrum Public Speaking Competition

Debating and Public Speaking forms an integral part of Cygnus at CGGS, our co-curricular program—it was wonderful to see our students’ exceptional communication skills and confidence on display. Congratulations to Isabella and Charlotte on being selected as winner and runner-up. We wish them well in the ACT finals later this term.
