Junior School Athletics Carnival
Just like the Autumn weather, our Junior School students really put on a show for their Athletics Carnival this week.
Held at the Woden Athletic Park, students participated in sprinting, shot put, discus, long jump and relay racing along with house games including tug-of-war, sack racing and more.
The cheers and encouragement from the crowd created an electric atmosphere that made the day even more special.
A big shoutout to all participants for their hard work and sportsmanship, and to the staff and volunteers that made the day a success! We can't wait to see what’s in store for our Senior School students when they hold their Athletics Carnival in a few weeks.
Mother's Day Classic Assembly
On 6 May, year six students were visited by two guest speakers from the Mother’s Day Classic. Cate Wood AM was one of the founders of the MDC and she brought the MDC to Canberra 18 years ago. She shared the story of how the MDC started and the impact it makes to women with breast and ovarian cancer. Courtney Sandell also shared her mum’s journey with breast cancer and how she has been supporting her mum over the past nine years by fundraising for the MDC. It was a touching and inspiring event and helped connect the students to the purpose behind their 5-km run around the lake. They have raised over $15K, making CGGS the 3rd top fundraiser nationally for the MDC.
Waverley House Charity
The tradition of baking beautiful cakes to sell for the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea continued this week, with Waverley House leading the Senior School in raising money for Cancer research. The theme this year was ‘Fantasy’ and the students outdid themselves with fabulous, fantastical cake designs. The House also sold hot chocolates which proved very popular given the chilly mornings. Thank you to Waverley House and all who supported their charity week.
