Student News: Term 1 Week 3 2024

A huge congratulations to Maya (Y10) who was awarded Best Youth Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her performance as Ursula in CGGS' production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. Presented by the Canberra Area Theatre Awards, Maya was one of eight CGGS nominees at the award ceremony.

Several students represented the Canberra City Magic at the NSW Junior State Cup for touch football recently. Stefania, Willow (Y7), Maddie, Olivia, Grace and Bella (Y8) played for the U14 girls team, while Charlotte and Annie (Y10) played for the U16 girls.

Sophie (Y12) has been selected for the U18 Australian Indoor Hockey squad. Her selection comes after a strong performance at the National competition in January, where her team won a silver medal.

Ava (Y12) represented Australia in Ice Hockey over the holidays. The international tournament was held in Spain and Italy.

At thew NSW State Track Cycling Championships, Emily (Y11) won the gold medal in the U17 Women's Sprint.

At the NSW Country Swimming Championships, Claire (Y10) won the silver medal in the 800m freestyle. This follows her strong performance at the ACT Championships, where she won gold in the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley, and silver in the 200m freestyle.

Well done to Harriet (Y3) Hailey, Aiva, Harriet, Brooklyn, Sophia and Maddie (Y4) who have been selected for the Canberra Brindies U10 girls touch football team.

Pinipa (Y8) competed at the ACT Track & Field Championships recently, finishing first in the 1500m, second in the 800m and fourth in the 400m.

In the local ACT competition, the U14 and U18 CGGS touch football teams both won their semi-finals, and will now play in their respective grand finals next week.
