Student Achievements

Congratulations to Hollie Teer (Y12, Dance Captain) and Izzie Becvarik (Y11) who have gained leading roles in an innovative six-month contemporary dance program. The pre-professional training program is hosted by The Training Ground, run by Bonnie Neate (CGGS parent of Year 8 student) and Suzy Piani. This year the project is called The Unravel Project and is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.

In other dance news, Mia Blazevski (Y10) was awarded Rookie of the Year in the teen category at Dance Central’s end of year awards. Melissa Rodrigues (Y10) and Violet Lewis (Y8) auditioned and were selected for Creed, a Varsity Crew at Dance Central. Ellie Bird and Oliver Kiermaier (Y9) were selected for the Calisthenics ACT Representative Team, Intermediate Level. Both sets of students will compete nationally throughout the year. Congratulations, girls!

Well done to Yasmeen Sidhu (Y11) who played with the Goulburn hockey team in the U15 indoor NSW state championships in Division 1. The tournament was held over three days in Orange, and the girls won the tournament, making them the number one hockey team for their age group in NSW.

Several of our students have excelled in STEM activities recently. Katia Stephan (Y12), Marina Markova (Y12), Sophia Boyce (Y11), Bella Lennon (Y8) and Muntaha Siddique (Y10) competed in the International Young Physicists Tournament in December, which challenges students to perform science experiments and then debate their findings. The CGGS team placed third overall, and Katia was selected to represent Australia at the next International Young Physicists Tournament. Well done Katia, and congratulations to our extraordinary girls!

Isra Eski (Y12) and Lucy Bott (Y12) were selected to participate in the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), which ran in early January this year. The NYSF offers an exciting range of STEM experiences for participants across Australia. Whilst the girls did not experience the residential program that is usually offered, they participated in an online version and are now part of the extensive NYSF alumni network.

Congratulations to Ava Polglase-Bulley (Y7) on her recent achievements in theatre. Ava has been a member of the Australian Girls’ Choir (AGC) in Canberra for over three years. Following an auditioning in 2021, Ava has also been offered a position in the AGC ‘Performing Choir’ for 2022. Members of this choir attend weekly practice and are provided with the opportunity to perform at Public events, as well as travel both Nationally and Internationally.

The challenge supports and empowers young women to create self-made career paths. Reshmi, who spoke on behalf of the team, explained to industry professionals how Investsense would help educate young adults about financial planning. Reshmi fielded a series of challenging questions about the team's project, demonstrating strong business understanding and grace under pressure well beyond her years. Well done to Reshmi and the team, it was truly inspiring to watch you in action! Canberra Weekly wrote an article on the girls’ presentation, which you can read here.
