Student Achievements

Congratulations to Chloe Douglas-Byrne (Y10) who had some success over the school holidays in the pool. Chloe competed in two championships over 10 days. The first was the NSW Country Regional Championships in Singleton, where she won three gold medals (50m, 100m, 200m freestyle), three silver medals (50m, 100m, 200m butterfly) and set a new personal best in the 200m butterfly. She then travelled to Sydney for the NSW Senior State Age Championships, where she set personal best times in all seven individual heat swims and won a silver medal in the 50m butterfly, placed fourth in the 50m freestyle and placed sixth in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle. Her club team also placed fifth in the medley relay at this event.

It was the most successful major championship Chloe has ever competed in, and her times qualified her for six individual events at the Australian National Age Championships in April. Well done, Chloe!

Congratulations to Maebel Callinan (Y10) who has been offered a place in the 2022 National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Young Actors Studio. Maebel will join 15 other young old actors from 11:00am to 5:00pm every Sunday during Term 1 at NIDA in Sydney. Maebel reflected on her three-hour audition in early December: “Forty teenagers made it to the live audition. I had to prepare a monologue from a list of several options. I chose a piece from a play called The Flick about three young people who work in a movie theatre. I read the whole play and rehearsed the monologue. We had a fun group warm up to raise our energy. After I performed my lines they asked me to do it again but a totally different style. I did the serious part but as if I was a stand-up comedian. They provided a lot of feedback and we talked about the part. It was a great experience and amazing to see all the other actors do their monologues. I am really excited to start.”

Well done to Emily Ezaki-Swain (Y10), Muntaha Siddique (Y10), Serina Guo (Y11) and Bella Mun (Y11) who have been selected to represent the ACT in the 2022 ACT Debating squad. CGGS students experienced a lot of success in debating in 2021, and will look to continue their exceptional results throughout the year.
