From the Acting Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)

Here we are, Week 3! I cannot believe how quickly the first few weeks have gone in the Senior School.

We have managed to fit a lot in to start the year, including the Year 11 and 12 Retreats, Information Evenings for the Year 8 to 10 parents, as well as one for our Year 11 parents. Thank you to everyone who attended our sessions, I hope they were informative and that they assist you in supporting your daughter in the year ahead.

On Monday 14 February we celebrated Galentine’s Day. The Senior Council (SC) dressed up and decorated the school with themed post it notes, chalked messages and sold lolly bags to their peers. It was a lovely event organised by the SC, the first of several they will coordinate in 2022.

I was sitting in the office of a colleague this week, and a particular note on her wall caught my eye: Comparison is the Thief of Joy. This is attributed to Theodore Roosevelt, the youngest person to become the President of the United States. It struck me as a prescient reminder to us all.

As our girls move into their first assessments later this term, please remind them that the School’s hope for each and every student is that they simply do their best. Not every student will receive an A grade, and that is ok. In my years of teaching I have seen students who have received an outstanding result, but become disappointed once they see the mark a friend received.

Here at CGGS, teaching the girls about resilience is an integral part of our curriculum. We are always mindful of our reactions to student results, as our comments can cause an unintended reaction. We encourage you to discuss this concept with your daughter as it applies to so much of what we do, and no matter how good we are, we are never the best at everything!

I wish everyone a productive and enjoyable Week 4 and 5.
