Co-curricular update

Sport update

It was wonderful to accompany the Rowing crews last weekend for the PLC/Kings and IGSA regattas. The CGGS students were by far the loudest cheer squad on the lake, and our crews did us proud, securing several podium finishes over the weekend. A special shout out to our wonderful parent community who looked after our students by providing a smorgasbord of meals over the weekend. Our Head of Rowing Ms Pijpers continued her wonderful work mentoring our athletes and coaches. Thank you also to Ms McWilliams for giving up her weekend to support our students. This weekend we look forward to supporting our crews participating in Head of the Lake (Saturday) and ACT Junior Championships (Sunday).

The ACT Sailing regatta was held last weekend in Canberra and we are incredibly proud of our Junior and Senior athletes, many of whom competed in their first regatta. The conditions were challenging at times, however, this did not stop our students from enjoying their time on the water.

I have had many enquiries about CGGS involvement in IGSA Sporting competitions. We are excited by the prospect of our involvement in the Big 3 carnivals (Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming) for 2022. Before each of these competitions, I will email the CGGS community to notify you of selection criteria and the nomination process. We hope that these competitions will draw the most competitive students from the CGGS community. Due to the large number of Independent Girls Schools who compete in these carnivals, IGSA has their own set of competition rules we are bound to follow.

School Sport ACT has announced that School Sport Australia competitions will go ahead in 2022. It will be left to the individual host states to determine the viability of the Championship they are hosting. It is important to note that this means that it is not guaranteed all of the Championships will stay at their current venue or take place if situations change closer to the date. SSACT also wishes to advise that they have launched the SSACT Scholarship Fund. Please refer to the SSACT website for more information.

Please keep an eye on Agora each Friday afternoon, as the sports department will send updates on sport schedules for the coming week.

Dance Company

2022 is going to be the year of dance and the CGGS Dance Company is in full flight!

We are excited to announce there are over 100 students enrolled in Co-curricular Dance this semester so far. We offer a range of styles including ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip hop, with spaces still available in all classes for students in Years 1-12. Also, CGGS will be participating is AusDance's Youth Dance Festival for our 35th year, and it's not too late to join the team.

Prep students are busting to get in Ballet class and settling in well as they travel to the Senior School campus each week. Enrolments for Prep students are now closed for semester one.

For all class enquiries, enrolments or to be placed on a waiting list, please contact Maree Cronin.

Get ready to be entertained as students prepare for the Winter Concert on Friday 10 June 2022 in the Senior School Hall. This is sure to be a spectacular evening of dance, including performances by students studying academic dance and their self-choreographed works. We also have two performance groups in the Dance Company preparing for local eisteddfod competitions in Term 2.

This year we welcome back Grammarian, Brielle Papa (2019), teaching Years 1-4 across the Dance Company who brings an unparalleled passion to her dance teaching. Dance Captain Hollie Teer (Year 12) and Dance Vice-captain Sarah Diplock (Year 11) are also assistant teaching to share their knowledge and talents while refining their coaching and teaching skills.

Watch this space for more upcoming events and dance news with ways to participate and watch dance.
