Co-curricular (sport) update

Sport has hit the ground running this week with several of our co-curricular sports commencing. In the Junior School, the newly revamped football program has proven to be extremely popular. The school has developed a partnership with the Football Star Academy (FSA). They will be providing our students with an exceptional football program that is supported by qualified coaches. Tennis, basketball (U10, U12 and mini hoops), Introduction to Netball (soon to be renamed Net, Set, Go) and the hockey come and try day by Hockey ACT, are amongst a few of our sports that commenced this week. Our water polo teams play in their first games of the Inter-schools Water Polo competition this Friday night at CISAC.

The Senior School has also been buzzing, with sport commencing at the campus in 2022. Trials for football and basketball commenced this week and our newly re-vamped strength and condition program called Fit, Fab, Fun, started on Wednesday morning. It has been a magnificent week for our sailing program down at the lake. We have partnered with the Canberra Yacht club and they are providing wonderful coaching support to our students.

Week 4 will be a busy week with the commencement of netball trials on Tuesday for the Senior School and Wednesday for the Junior School. Each Friday an update on the following weeks sport will be published on Agora, to keep you all up to date with the busy sports schedule.

Should your child be interested in participating in our co-curricular sports programs in Term 1, please check out the Agora sports page for more information.

Finally, I would like to wish our rowers the best of luck for this weekend’s ACT Rowing Regatta. Our rowers have been training hard over the holidays and we are looking forward to celebrating their upcoming success.

I am excited to join the CGGS community as the new Head of Sport. I come with over 20 years’ experience in the independent sector, teaching across co-educational and independent girls schools in Sydney and Canberra. I have been a teacher, administrator, coach and athlete during this time. I am very much looking forward to meeting your children, and to help foster their passion for sport. CGGS offers extensive sporting options within our co-curricular program. I encourage parents to have conversations with their children about the importance of sport in our daily lives. I looking forward to meeting you all around the sporting fields and would encourage you to reach out if you have any questions about sport at CGGS. Also, if your child has achieved some wonderful accolades in sport, please share them with me.
