In order to assist Year 8 students with their subject selections for 2021, a Languages Immersion Day was held earlier this month.
Language learning transforms the way students think about and interact with the world around them. It engenders curiosity and empowers students by making them more sensitive to our culturally diverse environment.
Students were immersed in a range of interactive language and cultural sessions and participated in an intensive session designed to broaden their understanding of the language they are currently studying. Several Grammarians, including Georgia Warren and Heidi Willis (both Class of 2019) took the time to record videos where they talk about how learning a second language has provided them with transformative opportunities.
The Year 8 students also engaged in activities designed to build their curiosity and understanding of foreign exchanges and post school language opportunities.
The day included an introduction to our Year 9 German program, language trivia led by our Languages Co-Captains, and other culturally rich activities. Here is what some of the Year 8 students had to say about the experience:
- "It was great fun to collaborate with other language students."
- "Thanks for a great time…I’m definitely going to consider doing languages next year!"
- "Thank you for organising such a fun day and putting so much hard work into making sure we had a good day. You should definitely continue this next year."
- "It was a really enjoyable day and I got to experience my language in a more creative way."
