At the recent 2019 ACT 13 & Over Track & Field Championships, CGGS had 16 students competing, all of whom did extremely well with many podium finishes, including the following ACT State Champion winners (for their age group):
- Inemami Ajulo (Year 9) – 200m, 100m, Long Jump and Triple Jump
- Antonia Cholewick (Year 12) – 200m and Long Jump
- Alex Krope (Year 10) – Shotput, Discus and Javelin
- Lucy Hincksman (Year 9) – 800m and 1500m
- Zoe Melhuish (Year 11) – 800m and 1500m
- Elise Finney (Year 10) – Discus
- Gracie Kemp (Year 12) – Shotput and Discus
- Grace Gee (Year 12) – Triple Jump
- Rory Owen (Year 10) – 400m

Meanwhile, three of our Year 5 students competed at the recent South Weston Athletics Championships and achieved some fantastic results:
- 11 years girls 200m - Alexandra Howes 1st; Alice Hincksman 2nd; Olivia Howes 3rd (CGGS trifecta!)
- 11 years girls 800m - Alexandra Howes 4th; Alice Hincksman 7th
- 11 years girls Long Jump - Olivia Howes 2nd; Alexandra Howes 6th
Debating and Public Speaking
Gemma Hudson (Year 11) and Jaimie Noonan (Year 10) achieved outstanding results at the Australian Individual Debating & Public Speaking Championships this week.
Gemma was runner-up in the Impromptu Speaking section and won the After Dinner section. She was also named Overall Champion and is number one in the team selected to represent Australia in the World Championships next April! Jaimie was the runner-up in the After Dinner section. Congratulations girls!
Well done to our Junior School artists who were finalist in the ACT Threatened Species Children’s Art Competition at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Quinlan Kelly (Year 6) won first place in the competition! The artworks will be on display at the Paperbark Treehouse area of the Botanic Gardens until 13 October 2019.
Our U14 Division 1 Soccer team won their final match of the season, finishing at the top of the ladder! Captain, Talia Daly (Year 8) said, “I have never seen a team accomplish so much throughout a season. From the defenders with their clearances, to mid fields position the ball and the forwards with saucy skills & amazing goals…this season for me has been a roller coaster and I am very proud to be part of this amazing team.”
U14 Division 1 Soccer team: Sophie Bolton (Year 7), Bronte Coggan (Year 7), Tahlia Daly (Year 8), Carissa Henzie (Year 7), Georgina Hill (Year 8), Leensaa Jarso (Year 7), Mariana Kartsonas (Year 8), Maddie Nelson (Year 8), Isabella Oloyede (Year 8), Ava Pickering (Year 7), Juliana Robertson (Year 7), Caitlin Swane (Year 7), Lucinda Thompson (Year 8) and Chloe Tierney (Year 7).
Australian National Eisteddfod
Congratulations and well done, Xuanwei Chen (Year 5) who attended the Speech and Drama division in the Australian National Eisteddfod on Saturday 7 September and was awarded:
- 1st Place: Poetry Recital Solo (10 Years & Under)
- 2nd Place: Reading at Sight Solo (10 Years & Under)
The Eastlake U12 girls AFL team were triumphant against the Gungahlin Jets to take out the premiership with a final score of 20 to 7. Four of our Year 6 girls were members of the team that played a magnificent game especially in defence - Ruby Dorman, Tara Fitzgerald, Macy Strickland and Audrey Ward. Brilliant win, girls!
Arguably the best finals game of the season for the CGGS U18 Green Hockey team. The whole team played out of their skins to record a fantastic 2 - 0 win against Uni Juniors. The quality of play lifted to a whole new exciting level with both teams very keen to claim the win. Our team proving they had the skills and ability to take home the winners’ trophy. Special thanks to Coach Kelby and Manager Cheryl for their work with this team through the season.
Congratulations to Tess Shanahan (Year 5) who won the Age Championship at the Thredbo Ski Club.
