Library happenings – Accelerated Reader Program

Posted 21 May 2021 12:03pm

Each year, Year 7 students are set the goal of reading one million words as part of the Library’s Accelerated Reader program. The program aims to inspire students to read by giving them the opportunity to visit the Library, discuss and select books with a Teacher Librarian, and have sustained reading time. Many students are working towards achieving this goal.

Angelina Lin is the first student in 2021 to reach this amazing milestone.  Not only has she read one million words, her current tally is 2,011,447 words! She has read a broad range of books to achieve this goal. They include classic novels such as The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as contemporary dystopian fiction like The Selection by Kiera Cass. Hopefully, Angelina’s achievement will inspire other students to discover and embrace the joy of wide reading for pleasure.
