Honouring our Anglican faith

Honouring our strong tradition and heritage, Canberra Girls Grammar is committed to being an exemplary school in the Anglican faith. Each year, as we celebrate Founders’ Day, various groups from within our community gather in the Chapel of the Annunciation to honour the Community of Sisters of the Church and their legacy.

While 2020 will be remembered as one of the few years we have been unable to collectively join together to celebrate Founders’ Day, the occasion will not go unmarked. Our School Chaplain, Reverend Jenny Willsher, has single-handedly filmed and produced a special edition of her ‘DIY Chapel Service’ especially for Founders’ Day.

In this special edition, Reverend Jenny shares her recipe for traditional currant buns – similar to those provided to the earliest students of our School by the Sisters of the Church.

We hope you will take the opportunity to bake a batch of your own currant buns and think about the extraordinary heritage of Canberra Girls Grammar School this Founders’ Day. If you’re unable to find yeast in the supermarket, perhaps you’d like to try making Margaret Cornwell’s currant scones.

Happy Founders’ Day.
