Economics students attend Westpac's annual Budget Dinner

The evening of the 18 May saw five Year 12 economics students; Georgia Connery, Ebony Ferraro, Kaitlin Miller, Olivia Sutton and Isobel Wynd, attend Westpac's annual Budget Dinner at the Hyatt Hotel. We attended with Principal Anne Coutts and Chief Operating Officer Heather Walsh.

The key presentation of the evening was one from Bill Evans, Westpac Bank's Chief Economist in which he discussed Australia's current economic climate and the impact of this year's budget on the future of the economy. It was particularly interesting to hear that the current mindset of businesses is one of debt minimisation rather that profit optimization and this is one of the key factors holding back economic growth.

The evening was a valuable and eye-opening experience that allowed us to see the real world application of all we have been studying in economics.
