CGGS played in the local tournament of the hotly contested Kate Tominac Cup, last Thursday 4 June.
With many of our senior students unavailable due to exams next week, we had an even younger team than usual. The girls played four round games in the morning, winning two and losing two. Their best game was against the team from Lake Ginninderra who had three Australian players in their team. The shooting by the CGGS girls in the third quarter was outstanding.
After the rounds, CGGS was in 3rd place. From there, they faced a strong Daramalan College team in the semi-final. Our girls played very strongly but were unable to bridge the gap, losing 59–52. One of the final plays of the day was an outstanding 'alley-oop'. This is a very difficult play to make and was great to watch. Rosie Schweizer (Year 9) passed perfectly to Alana Dalgleish (Year 12) who leapt into the air to score the basket.
Congratulations to all the girls who played so well, tried so hard and supported each other so willingly. The team, who was ably led by Captain Alice Dyer, Alana Dalgleish, Tarushi Fernando, Sarah Officer, Kim Pham, Rosie Schweizer, Sarah Hutchinson, Anastasia Katsanevakis and Katerina Katsanevakis.
Finally, thank you to Rachel Grant (Head Coach) for her excellent coaching on the day and to Mrs Debbie Katsanevakis and Mrs Marny Dalgleish for assisting with the scoring duties during the day.
