ACT ATHLETICS SCHOOL KNOCKOUT COMPETITION

Posted 21 October 2016 2:32pm

Twenty-three Canberra Girls Grammar School students braved the cold at the Woden Athletics Track to compete in the ACT Schools Knockout Athletics competition on Friday, 14 October -

Competing in teams – junior, intermediate and senior – our students did really well across the board. The intermediate team placed second overall and the senior team won their division, meaning both teams will continue on to the National Schools Knockout Championships in Canberra in December. Our junior team put up a strong fight against stiff competition but unfortunately did not place.

The competition comprises a range of events, both track and field, which must be covered by the members of each team - each athlete only allowed to participate in three events. Points are allocated to the team based on the placing each athlete achieves for their event.

The night finished with a relay for each age division – a 4 x 200m for the juniors, a Swedish relay (100m, 300m, 200m, 400m) for the intermediates and a medley relay (200m, 200m, 400m, 800m) for the seniors, with the CGGS teams winning both junior and senior relays and coming second in the intermediate category.

Huge congratulations to all who participated on the night, especially the Year 9 girls who came straight to the venue after returning from camp. A special thanks to Mrs Cubit for her help in organising the teams and her support during the competition and also to Mrs McGuiness for being there on the night.
