IB Primary Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a broad-based curriculum with exciting 21st century relevance. The IB programmes have an international reputation for offering the highest quality education, promoting an international mindedness and a positive approach to classroom learning.

Canberra Girls Grammar School is one of 5,175 IB World Schools in 157 countries that shares in the vision of empowering young people with the knowledge, skills and values to create a better and more peaceful world. We have proudly been an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) school since our authorisation in 2011.

The IB PYP is designed for students between the ages of 3 and 12 years old. It is an international, transdisciplinary programme that views structured inquiry as the leading vehicle for learning.

The PYP  focuses on the total growth of the developing child, seeking to touch hearts as well as minds, and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs, in addition to academic welfare.

At the heart of the Primary Years Programme, as with each of the IB programmes, is the IB learner profile, which consists of ten attributes that reflect the holistic nature of an IB education: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers.These cognitive, social, emotional and physical well-being attributes are developed over time, helping our students learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them.
