2016 Drama productions

Canberra Girls Grammar School drama students performed two major productions in 2016 - the Senior production of Midsummer Jersey ran from 11-14 October followed by the Year 9-10 production of Hating Alison Ashley from 8-10 November 2016.

Summer Shorts – 22-23 March 2016

An annual co-curricular Drama event at CGGS, Summer Shorts gives Year 7 and 8 students an opportunity to explore onstage and offstage roles in a fun, collaborative and inclusive environment, culminating in a live performance. This year, there were over 90 students involved, including actors, directors, front of house and backstage crew.

Senior Drama students also became involved and took on the responsibility of Directors and Stage/Production Managers. They worked in teams with small groups of Year 7 and 8 students to cast, rehearse and produce 6 short comic plays: Bad Auditions by Bad Actors, Vulga the Vampire, School Under Siege, Love and Lycra and Doctor Doctor.

Guys and Dolls - 11 to 13 April 2013

The CGGS and CGS production of Guys and Dolls was a musical fable of Broadway:

  • based on a story and characters of Damon Runyon
  • music and lyrics by Frank Loesser
  • book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

The Canberra Theatre was sold out over all three nights (11-13 April, 2013) and the production was enthusiastically received. More than 200 students and staff were involved and the success of the production.
