Subject Selection Interviews for Year 11 in 2008

Year 10 students will shortly be making subject selections for Year 11 in 2008. As part of the subject selection process, each Year 10 student will be interviewed on Monday 4 June by her respective Head of House. Interviews will be held in CGGS Hall and students have been provided with a schedule of interview times. The purpose of the interview is threefold: to discuss factors that should be considered when making subject choices for next year; to give advice and guidance about subject choices and; to clarify the subject selection process. While Heads of House will conduct the interviews, Teresa Bubear, Careers Coordinator, and I will be available to discuss specific issues or concerns with individual students. Students have also been provided with a sample subject selection form and asked to consider the options carefully before their interview and to have some preliminary ideas about their subject choices. If a student has an assessment task during her scheduled interview time, she has been asked to swap her time with another student in the same House. Students who are absent on Monday will be interviewed at another time.

Subject selections for Year 11 in 2008 will be due on FRIDAY 27 JULY 2007 – the last day of Week 1, Term 3.

If you would like to discuss your daughter’s subject selections for next year, feel free to contact me: (T:6202 6407, email jenny.bartley@cggs.act.edu.au).

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN DOING AN APPRENTICESHIP DURING YEARS 11 AND 12?

Australian School-Based Apprenticeships (ASBAs) offer students in Years 11 and 12 the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised vocational qualification by combining paid work and structured training as part of their school program. ASBAs are particularly suitable for students who have a keen interest in a specific industry and plan to study at CIT or enter the workforce directly when they leave school. These students might have the dual objective of attaining ACT Year 12 Certificate and a vocational qualification. The ASBA is recognised on the student’s ACT Year 12 Certificate. Students undertaking an ASBA are supported by the School to enrol in a range of courses that meet their individual needs and to manage the combination of school, work and training throughout Years 11 and 12.

A Certificate II ASBA Training Contract consists of a minimum of 11 hours per week, with a minimum of 8 hours paid work and a minimum of 3 hours of structured off the job training.

Do you have a daughter in Year 10 who might be interested in commencing an ASBA next year? Would you like to know more about ASBAs? If so, go along to the Breakthrough 500 Conference on 15 May at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, Fremantle Drive, Stirling. There is a session specifically for parents from 5-7pm.
