Thankyou to Miss Hall and Mrs MacDonald for helping out on the day and making sure everyone was on time for their races. We wish the girls competing in the Pacific School Games trials, which will be held towards the end of the year, all the best of luck.

ACT Pacific School Games Selection Process for Swim Team 2008
As The Pacific School Games (PSG) will be held in Canberra in December, the usual ACTPSSA and SSSA Swimming Championships will not be held in their usual format. This event is being organized by ACT Swimming, ACTPSSA and ACTSSSA and schools will be required to provide staff to officiate.
A two-day selection trial will be held on 9 and 10 September at the AIS. Students will need to attend this trial to be selected in the ACT Pacific School Games Swim Team. All events that will be swum at the PSG will be held over the two days and it will be self-selecting, as all events will be swum as timed finals.
Students will also need to have swum in some event at the Zone carnival. Any student who has not participated in the school sport pathway will not be considered, unless they were ill and can submit a medical certificate for that day. Consideration will be given only to long distance specialists whose events are not swum at Zone level.
Information regarding the program for the two days and entry forms will be sent to schools and swim clubs in due course. There will be qualifying standards in each event but these will be fairly reasonable and set to have a maximum of 2/3 heats in each event. Entry times, will need to be long course times swum since October 2007, and be verified by the clubs race secretary or, for those swimmers not in swim clubs times must be swum at Zone Carnivals.
Because there will be some students who do not swim with clubs and wish to attend the trial, their times need to be verified, so a copy of the results needs to be sent to School Sport ACT for reference when doing entries for the selection trial.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Thursday 21 February, students participated in the annual CGGS House Swimming Carnival, at the Australian Institute of Sport Swimming Pool. Our School theme is ‘participation at all levels’. The Houses made the best of every opportunity and continued the School’s strong House tradition of themes and cheers. The carnival was certainly a whole School event, with students and staff involved in ICT, recording, timing, photography, videoing, cheering, swimming and House spirit! It is the participation of all students and staff that makes this such an enjoyable event and I thank all involved for their tremendous support.

- We now look forward to the ASC Swimming Carnival, which will be held in Week 9 on Wednesday 2 April at the AIS Pool. Please see Mrs Hunter for more information. Good luck to all competitors.
- Our thanks must also go to Mrs Martine, our Swimming Captain’s mum, who continued our School tradition by presenting medallions and trophies to our winning students at Tuesday’s assembly. Lastly, a big thank you to all parents who came to support their daughters on the day of the Carnival.

SWIM FIT GROUP
Just a reminder that the Swim Fit Group sessions have recommenced at the CGGS Pool every Tuesday afternoon 3.45pm-4.30pm and Thursday morning 7am-7.45am for any CGGS student (during term time only). There is no cost for this co-curricular activity, however students need to be able to swim 25 metres. These groups are proving to be very popular and the students have been involved in a variety of fitness and swimming activities, instructed by accredited swimming coaches.
For more information, please contact CGGS Pool staff, Carol Gathercole or Rhiannon Kocmar on 6202 6461
