Greening Australia

As part of the community service program at CGGS, the Year 8 students helped Greening Australia plant trees this week. The lower Cotter area was badly damaged by the 2003 bushfires and an extensive re-vegetation program is attempting to return this important water catchment area to its former native state.  Students worked very hard in challenging terrain (lots of brambles!) and exceeded the 1000 plant target set by planting an additional 100 trees.

In 2006, Tutor Group PG5 undertook the ambitious task of making a quilt for our annual charity project. It was to be a patchwork of individual dolls. We soon came to realise the enormity of the challenge we faced given that the majority of us were completely lacking in textiles skills. After almost a year of struggles, 37 metres of thread and a rather disturbing case of a doll’s arm ‘accidentally’ being hacked off, we finally managed to complete the quilt. We would like to thank our tutor, Miss Montgomery, for never giving up on us despite numerous setbacks.

We decided to donate the quilt to the Fiona Lodge at Batemans Bay. It is a Ronald McDonald House Family Retreat and provides free holiday accommodation for seriously ill children and their families. We hope that our quilt will be loved and well used.
