WATERWISE TIP
If you need to replace your hot water system consider installing an instant hot water heater. They eliminate water loss as you you won't need to let the water run until it gets hot. They are also more energy efficient, only heating the water that you use rather than heating a store of water that is periodically reheated while it is in the system.

a) cease enrolment;
b) change from boarding to day student status;

In the case of a) and b), fees for one half term are payable if sufficient notice is not given. KIDSMATTER SURVEY
As part of the KidsMatter Initiative, the Junior School is looking at creating a data base of skills which parents may be able to share. A focus of this is to look at how we might be able to help those families for whom English is their second language; however, we are also interested in other skills or interests which you may be willing to share. We ask that you please take a few minutes to complete the following online survey. Your continued support of our initiative is greatly appreciated.

CALLING ALL MOBILE PHONES
Help prevent mobile phones from ending up in landfill. Send them in to either the Junior School or Senior School Reception.
MobileMuster is the official national recycling program of the mobile phone industry in Australia. Initiated voluntarily by the telecommunications industry in 1999 its overall aim is to prevent mobile phones ending up in landfill. The program collects and recycles mobile phone handsets, batteries and accessories from a network of over 2,000 mobile phone retailers, local councils, government agencies and businesses
Over 90% of the materials in mobile phones, batteries and accessories can be recovered and used as raw materials in the manufacture of new products. While everything in a mobile phone is solid state (ie there are no moving parts or liquids that can be released in normal use), they do contain small amounts of potentially hazardous substances, which if mismanaged at the end of its life can harm the environment.
Help our environment, round ‘em up and send them in!

WASTE WISE TIP FOR THE WEEK
Did you know - as well as using up to 30 litres of water a day, garbage-disposal units send extra rubbish and nutrients to sewage treatment plants.
A better option is to compost your vegetable food scraps for your garden and to dispose of other food scraps in the rubbish bin. If you must use a garbage-disposal unit, connect the outlet to a tank and use the water on your garden. The mulched vegetables and water are rich in nutrients and are a great fertiliser for the garden.

NATIONAL ASSESSMENT IN LITERACY AND NUMERACY REPORT TO PARENTS AND CARERS
In May 2008, almost 18,000 ACT public and non-government school students sat the first national tests in literacy and numeracy. The tests, which were undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across the country, covered reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
The Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs will release state and territory and national results on Friday 12 September. From Monday 15 September, the School will have individual student results, which will be distributed to parents and carers. In line with the national focus of the tests, the reports to parents and carers will have a consistent style and format for each state and territory, providing more comparable data for viewing the progress of your child.
The reports provide a point-in-time analysis of student achievement. It is therefore important that if parents and carers have any concerns about the reports or about their child’s progress they should make a time to discuss these results, along with other school-based assessments.
If you wish to discuss your daughter’s reports and/or progress, please contact Katherine Stretton on 6202 6406 or
6202 6408. Alternatively, you may email katherine.stretton@cggs.act.edu.au. Further information on the purpose of the test and how to read your daughter’s report can be found at www.naplan.edu.au.
