Junior Softball
The Junior Softball season commenced mid October with four teams participating in The Woden Valley Softball Competition. Students from Prep to Year 1 are currently participating in a non-competitive Diamond Ball program that aims to teach the basic skills of softball with an emphasis on participation, social interaction, enjoyment, progression and skill development. With plenty of encouragement from their coach, manager and parent support group the Year 3 students are consolidating their skills and have progressed to play competitive Tee Ball. Our Primary Softball teams have progressed in skill and have many challenges to face.

Juniors - End of Season
The Softball season commenced in October 2006 and continued, breaking over the Christmas holiday period, through until the end of Term 1 2007. The Junior School had six teams participating in the Woden Valley Softball Association Competition - two Diamond Ball, a mixed Teeball, a Modified Softball and two Primary Softball Teams. With increasing confidence and improved skills the students showed endless determination to challenge each team in a tough mixed competition. Students in Diamond Ball, Teeball and Modified Softball were all presented with participation medallions. The School is grateful to the parents for their support, the students for their sportsmanship and the coaches and managers who gave up their time.
Seven of our students had the opportunity to trial and were selected to represent the Woden Valley Softball Association at the ACT Junior Championships in March. They will represent in Boys Teeball, Modified Softball and U12 Girls Softball. The South Canberra District also ran Trials for the ACT Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) and several of our students were selected and played in this Competition at the Kaleen playing fields. This competition is also used to select players for the ACT PSSA teams.
Senior Championships
The 2006/07 Softball season has come to end, with both CGGS teams, Grammar A and Grammar B, having a successful season. Both teams have come a long way since the end of last year. Grammar B started the season with a number of new enthusiastic players, some of whom had not played before. It is a great credit to the team that they finished third in their division. They played a fantastic Semi Final amid high spirited cheering and excellent teamwork. Although defeated in that game the players can be proud of their teamwork and have taken away some great memories of the games.
Grammar A was both relieved and thrilled to get into the Grand Final, as the team had not managed to get past the Semi Final game in four years. Needless to say there was some nervousness as the team walked onto the diamond to play the Grand Final against Radford. Grammar A led all the way, with the final score being 8-5. The victory was a tribute to the whole team which has trained hard all season.
A big thank you to Mr Griffiths who supported both teams throughout the season and a special thank you to Mr Weigall for coming out to support the players on Saturday.
Finally, thanks must go to all coaches, managers, parents, supporters and of course the PDHPE Department for without their support CGGS Softball would not be possible.
We hope to see you next season!
