A little bit of Junior School history was made on Monday, 3 September when Mia Blazevski (Year 6 Chisholm) won the Grand Final of the 2018 Rostrum ACT Primary Schools Speaking Competition. This was the first time we have brought this trophy home and great excitement and celebration, amongst her many supporters, followed the announcement.
Mia spoke with confidence, passion and outstanding voice modulation to convince the audience (and the adjudicators) that robots are actually helping create more jobs for people, rather than reducing them.
“We are on the cusp of a Robotic Revolution that will enhance our lives, increase job choice and lay the foundations for our future world,” said Mia, in her speech.
Congratulations Mia! A culture of excellent public speaking has been embedded in our school over many years, and your success is a worthy recognition of this.
At the beginning of the year, four CGGS students were encouraged to join the ACT women's football league to continue their soccer pursuits.
Last Sunday, Bronte Hunter (Year 12 Waverley), Lizzy Holly (Year 12 Waverley), Lisa Corbett (Year 12 Kilburn) and Tara Cameron (Year 11 Kilburn) competed in the grand final with their Woden Valley Women’s State League team. After sitting on top of the ladder with the highest number of points for the season, the team was awarded the Premiers medal and just missed out on being the grand finalists in a tough sudden death match against Belsouth Foxes, taking out the runners up medal. Well done girls we are all very proud of you.
Alice Hincksman (Year 4 Bates) ran in the Australian Cross Country Championships in Queensland last week. Her proud mum, Jane (Acting Head of PDHPE) – a seasoned runner – said, “It was the hardest course I’ve ever seen.... hills were torturous! Alice did well 24 out of 42 and first ACT across the line. Huge first experience for her.”
Well done Alice, this is a fantastic result.
Congratulations to Lily Veleba (Year 8 Robertson) who has received Ski & Snowboard Australia Emerging Talent scholarship in Mogul Skiing.
