Student Achievements

Posted 2 March 2018 1:41pm

Madison Mulligan (Year 10 Deakin) competed in the Sport Climbing NSW/ACT Lead and Speed Championships recently and after performing strongly, she is now the ACT Youth A Lead and Speed Champion and also the ACT Open Women’s Lead and Speed Champion which qualifies her for both the Open Women's National Titles in March and Youth National Titles in May. She is currently a member of the Australian Youth Team and with luck in upcoming competitions she may retain her position, and possibly gain a place on the Open Women’s team to compete in Austria later this year.

Congratulation to Gemma Murphy (Year 12 Burgmann) who made the Australian All Stars team for Football (Soccer) when she represented ACT at the Pan Pacific Games in December last year. As a result, Gemma’s achievements will be recognised at the ACT Excellence in Sports Awards on 7 March 2018.

During the January holidays, Sam Burge (Year 11 Burgmann) – along with her horse, Fred - attended the 2018 State Equestrian Team camp at Sydney Olympic Park. Sam has been passionate about equestrian for almost 10 years and this was the first time a CGGS student has been selected to attend the event which attracts 40 equestrians from across NSW.

At the conclusion of the camp, tryouts were held for the Australian Mounted Games and Sam was selected as a reserve. Sam said she enjoyed the camp but it did have its challenges; “It was very tiresome, with early wake ups at 5:30am and late nights as well as looking after our horses, but the lecture by the Horse Nutritionist and the Dressage training were highlights of the camp for me.”

Ellie Koundouris (Year 9 Kilburn) has been selected for the Tennis Australia development squad and the ACT Pizzey Cup team. Pizzey Cup is a schools’ event and she will be representing CGGS. Ellie is also one of 32 girls nationally to have been selected to attend the Adelaide Grass Court Nationals.

Special thanks to Sports Captain, Rosie Schweizer, for contributing the article about Sam Burge.
