Congratulations to Rowena Stening (Year 12 Burgmann) who scored in the 100% percentile of the Australian Mathematics Competition. She scored a z-score of 3.40!
Considering that only the brightest and most talented mathematics students from the country actually participate in the competition, this is even more amazing.
Maths Teacher, Ms Nancy Lee said, “In my nine years at CGGS we have never had a student achieve a prize on the AMC, and we have had some amazing maths students during that time.”
Unfortunately for Rowena she is unable to collect her prize medal at the AMC Medal Awards presentation in Tasmania as the date unfortunately conflicts with, no other than, the IB mathematics Higher Level Paper 1 exam which she needs to be present at CGGS to sit the paper.
In Junior School news, Year 5 students Hannah Knight and Reshmi Sananayake participated in Anglicare’s Pens Against Poverty - a competition which was conceived with the belief that students write more powerfully when given a genuine purpose and a real audience. Hannah was named co-winner of the Year 5-6 Story category while Reshmi’s entry in the same category was highly commended. Excitingly, CGGS was named the ‘stand out School’. Thank you to Year 5 teacher, Lucy Badzim, for helping guide all our students who took part in this worthwhile opportunity.
