Over the winter holidays, the CGGS Sailing Team competed at the Australian Secondary Schools Teams Racing Championships in Blairgowrie, Victoria. This event doubled as the Australian Championships regatta. The team was made up of the following students: Beatrice Alexander (Year 7 Kilburn), Eve Anderson (Year 9 Waverley), Isabella Bartlett (Year 10 Kilburn), Evie Harrison (Year 8 Burgmann), Michaela McGrath (Year 11 Burgmann), Alexandra Mackay (Year 11 Deakin), Yasmin Moraitis (Year 7 Waverley) and Caitlin Richards (Year 9 Deakin).
Over the course of the week, we raced against many different teams from across Australia, including last year’s national champions. We had some losses but also many successes and ended up coming away with third place in the all-girls competition.
As a result of placing third in the event, the team have been selected to represent Australia at this year’s Interdominion Schools Team Sailing Championships to be held at the Sandspit Yacht Club, Algies Bay, Warkworth, New Zealand from 29 September to 4 October 2018
The team also received an umpires’ award for good sportsmanship exhibited on the water.
