On Thursday 12 March Mikaela Gavin (2014) was presented with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) at Government House. Mikaela spent nearly two years working towards her award which included a regular commitment to increasing fitness and performance in Tae Kwon Do, improving performance skills and understanding of music as part of the Symphony Orchestra, supporting younger members of the String Orchestra and participating in extended expeditions with other young people to complete the Overland Track in Tasmania and to build a toilet in a village in Laos.

Two other Grammarians were presented with their awards at the ceremony: Alexandra Morris (2007), an ANU Bachelor of Medical Science graduate who is now teaching at Burgmann Anglican School and Penny Hall (2007), an ANU Bachelor of Science graduate. Nine Year 10 students who have just begun their Silver Awards are travelling to the coast this weekend to complete their first adventurous journey, a mix of hiking and kayaking.
