Gabriel Foundation - Advancing educational opportunities

We take our position in the community very seriously, and understand our responsibility to serve the families of the region by offering the highest educational opportunities to young women of great potential and special ability.

Founded in 1983, the Gabriel Foundation strengthens our community by advancing educational opportunities for students, and to further the tradition of philanthropy, which includes the provision of bursaries to support our programs.

The Foundation aims to recognise students who will make a strong and positive contribution to the life of the School and who harness the essence of our motto, To the young anything is possible. Last week we formally honoured our 2019 scholarship recipients at a function attended by the scholars, their families and Mr Bob Nattey, Deputy Chair of the Gabriel Foundation Board.

A scholarship at Canberra Girls Grammar School can be the beginning of a journey of empowerment. Scholars join a community that develops well-educated young women, and creates in them, a desire to contribute to a world of diversity, equality and inclusion.

Reflecting on her time as Gabriel Boarding Scholar, Grammarian Lauren Kajweski (2006) said, “By far the biggest gift the Gabriel Foundation gave me was exposure to adult role models and mentors, in particular Mrs Tina Twigg (Head of Boarding). The teachers, and Mrs Twigg particularly, remain on my shortlist of most influential people in my life and are credited with where I am today – so I graciously say thank you.”

Lauren went on to complete a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Canberra followed by a Masters at Harvard University, majoring in Sustainability and Environmental Management. She is a pioneering female leader in the property and construction industry and continues to blaze trails in a male-dominated industry.

Our 2021 Scholarship program will launch in the near future, offering various scholarships for students entering Year 5 to Year 11. Please visit our website for more information including evaluation criteria in relation to the various scholarships available.
