Changes to CGGS uniform

Posted 10 August 2017 5:28pm

Some time ago we undertook consultations with the student body to determine which elements of the CGGS uniform needed to be reviewed. During the course of discussions and polling of student opinion, three main concerns arose: winter coats, rain coats and the summer dress.

With the introduction of the navy coat earlier this year, the first two concerns have been addressed and very well received. The School Shop has sold in the vicinity of 800 coats since their release.

The new summer dress was signed off on Friday 4 August after the Uniform Committee made recommendations to the Principal. In comparison to the existing dress, the fabric composition is similar, however, the style is different in the following areas:

  • Tartan fabric the same as the winter skirt (Senior School) and pinafores (Junior School) with white piping on collar and sleeves
  • A-Line dress with tabs at the natural waist rather than a drop waist
  • Single pleats at each side, front and back

This dress will eventually replace the existing summer dress at both the Junior and Senior School (Prep-Year 10), with a transition of around 12-18 months expected. We are working with the supplier to determine when the dresses will be available for sale in the hope we may be able to start introducing them as early as Term 1 2018. Pricing for the new dress will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Finally, we are pleased to announce the introduction of navy trousers throughout the School as an optional uniform item. They may be worn in both winter and summer with the existing blouse. Sample sizes of the trousers will be available in the next few weeks at which time orders may be placed. It is expected the lead-time on trousers, once ordered, will be around two weeks. The sale price is expected to be $73.00.
