CGGS competes in the da Vinci Decathlon national finals

Over 20 to 23 June, eight Year 7 students competed in the national finals of the da Vinci Decathlon. The event was held in Sydney at Knox Grammar School and around the Sydney Harbour area.

The students were: Emma Byatt, Gemma Hudson, Nevinka Perera, Felicity Allanson, Zoe Melhuish, Phoebe Varela, Veronique Winter and Caitlin Boyes.

Canberra Girls Grammar School was invited to participate in the national competition as our students won the regional da Vinci Decathlon competition that was held last month in the ACT. There were 25 teams competing from NSW, ACT, SA, WA and QLD, of which, 13 teams were in the junior competition.

The event comprised of the usual 10 academic disciplines as well as a 'Race around Sydney', which involved following cryptic clues and answering questions.

The students enjoyed this experience and were very successful, especially as this was the School's first invitation to this national event. They placed 2nd in English, Cartography and General Knowledge for the Junior Year 7/8 competition and placed 2nd in the 'Race around Sydney', which involved all 25 teams. Our students were the only junior team to place.

A big thank you to Mrs Meibusch for accompanying us.
