On Thursday, 13 September, Kenneth Lampl, Head of the ANU School of Music welcomed a small but enthusiastic audience to the Llewellyn Hall auditorium for the 7th Annual ACTcent Concert.
This concert is run each year by the ACT Music Educators Network and showcases excellence in music performance amongst year 12 BSSS Tertiary music students in the ACT. Nicole Wang (Year 12 Kilburn), skilled pianist and CGGS Music Captain, was nominated to represent our Year 12 cohort. She played the passionate and technically challenging Brahms Hungarian Rhapsody op.79, no.2 with characteristic flare.
The great variety of performance styles is a regular highlight of the ACTcent Concert and this year was no exception. Aside from pianists, vocalists and a trumpeter, we heard performances using loop pedal and a Launch Pad. Amidst these musical innovations, Nicole’s performance on the piano stood out for its mastery of the piece and elegance of execution. The Music Faculty is hugely proud of her achievement – well done Nicole.
