A conversation with the Governor-General

Posted 4 June 2020 4:08pm

The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and his wife, Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley graciously offered to provide an exclusive remote interview to Canberra Girls Grammar School students after having to cancel their attendance at the 2020 CGGS ANZAC Day Assembly due to COVID-19.

Ten students, from Years 6 to 11, were privileged to interview the Governor-General and Mrs Linda Hurley this week via Zoom. The girls posed some thought-provoking questions to the Hurleys and learned much about the value of role models and the skills of listening and servant leadership.

Watch the full interview to hear the Hurleys’ candid views about national values, democracy and the values of tolerance and shared experience in a globalised world. Stay tuned until the end and you will hear a wonderful, impromptu vocal performance of Mrs Hurley’s own composition!

Well done to the following girls, you are a credit to yourselves and the School:

Year 6 – Claire Bridley and Sophie Murphy
Year 7 – Kate Corcoran
Year 8 – Aditi Padmakumar
Year 9 – Maddie Nelson and Abigail Power
Year 10 – Claire Sonnek and Holly Irvine
Year 11 – Georgina McCrossin and Bethany Egan
