Instrumental Studies and Co-curricular Music
The Junior School at Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) offers students the opportunity to be involved in music through a number of different avenues.
For students wishing to learn an instrument, visiting instrumental tutors give half-hour weekly lessons, before, during and after school. Most of the lessons are given during the school day. The School has a wide range of instruments for hire for those who do not have their own or who perhaps wish to try before they buy.
We also offer a various year level-based bands including the Year 3 Beginner String Program, Year 4 Band Program and the Year 5 Instrumental Program.
As part of the co-curricular music program, CGGS also offers students the opportunity to join a number of ensembles. There are no auditions for any ensemble. Instrumental tutors will guide students as to when they are ready to join an ensemble.
The choral programme at CGGS is very strong, as singing is seen as an important facet of a musician’s development. Accordingly, students who enjoy music in its many forms are encouraged to join at least one of the choirs. The Junior School offers the opportunity for students to participate in four different choirs.
